I saw this video on YouTube and was intrigued. In it, a man is sitting with his daughter in a cave in the middle of nowhere. He begins to build a wooden horse on the cave floor. She asks him what he’s going to do with it. He begins to explain, but then he doesn’t finish. She asks him what he is going to do with the wood.
It’s a very simple question. What is the goal of a woodworking project? How is something built? A person with a woodworking mindset will ask what they are going to use the wood for. The way that she asked it, however, was kind of a dig at me. I think she assumed that I wouldn’t give my daughter the same advice she asked me, since it seems like she asked me what I was going to do with my wooden horse.
He explains that a woodworking project is a very specific project, an idea that many people might have. I guess I’m a little confused about that. It’s like saying “I’m so excited to learn more about my work, and I’m excited to learn how to build a house!” And to me that’s a very vague phrase that I don’t know what it is really about.
In a nutshell, a woodworking project is an idea that many people have. A wooden horse is a wooden project, a project you make from a wood. Thats all I know.
It really sounds to me like you are trying to say how excited you are for your woodworking projects. But then again, thats what I hear. I try to say woodworking and wood are synonymous. But theres a difference between a piece of wood and an idea. Its like saying Im so excited to learn more about my work, and Im excited to learn how to build a house and then Im excited to learn how to build a horse.
It’s a shame we can’t share the fun we have building wooden horses, but sadly that’s not much of a consolation. The point of this post is to say that you really just have to go with it. Like getting a wood project going and building something with it, even if you only do it once, the process of learning how to build something from nothing is an amazing and important process to learn.
